Ryder Cup 2027: Adare Manor, Ireland, and the Hundredth Year

Three days of match play, a century of history, and a course in County Limerick that has been preparing for this since 2018

About the Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup is the biennial match between Europe and the United States, played in match play over three days. The 2027 edition is at Adare Manor in County Limerick from 13 to 19 September, with competition on 17-19 September. It is the second Ryder Cup held in Ireland, after The K Club in 2006, and it marks the centenary of the competition.

What Makes It Different

No prize money, no individual title, and a format that turns golf into a team sport for one weekend every two years — which is why the atmosphere bears no resemblance to a tournament. The first tee on Friday morning is the loudest moment in the sport.

Adare Manor adds its own character: a rebuilt parkland course attached to a manor hotel in a village, in a country where the crowd will be overwhelmingly on one side.

Where to Start

  • Decide between the build-up and the match — Monday to Thursday carry practice and the opening ceremony with far easier access, Friday to Sunday are the contest
  • Solve accommodation across the region, not the village — Adare is small, and Limerick, Killarney and the wider south-west absorb the week
  • Expect Irish September — layers, waterproofs and footwear for wet ground
  • Plan the transport early — rural Limerick will have its busiest week in history

A format where all four players play their own ball, and each side counts its better score on every hole.

Fourballs have each player playing their own ball. Foursomes have partners alternating shots on a single ball, which is the harder and more nerve-testing of the two.

Four ball is played in sessions alongside foursomes on the Friday and Saturday, with all twelve singles matches on the Sunday.

It covers injury: each captain secretly names a player before the singles, and if the opposing side loses someone to injury, the named player sits out and the match is halved.

Yes. Access is far easier, the players are approachable, and the opening ceremony is on the Thursday.

Across the south-west rather than in Adare itself. Limerick, Killarney and the surrounding country absorb the week.
