About the Members’ Meeting
The Goodwood Members’ Meeting is held each spring on the Goodwood Circuit in West Sussex — 2.4 miles and nine turns, laid out on a wartime perimeter road and opened in 1948 by Freddie March, the ninth Duke of Richmond.
It revives the club meetings the circuit ran in its original life, and it is deliberately smaller than the estate’s two famous events. Where the Revival sells out and the Festival of Speed fills the park, the Members’ Meeting is closer to what a race weekend used to be: the same standard of car, a fraction of the people.
Access, and What It Requires
The clue is in the name. Attendance runs through the Goodwood Road Racing Club rather than public sale. Membership has a waiting list; guest access is arranged through members and through the estate.
Dress is period — the Revival’s rule applies here too, loosely interpreted but visibly expected. It is worth getting right, because a paddock full of people who have got it right is part of why the weekend works.
The Circuit Itself
Goodwood is 2.4 miles of wartime perimeter road with nine corners, almost no run-off and trees where modern circuits have gravel. It has never been modernised, which is why it cannot host contemporary single-seaters and exactly why historic racing there looks the way it does — the cars are being driven on the circuit they were designed for, with the consequences that implies.
St Mary’s, Lavant and Woodcote are the corners that decide races. The lap record stands to Nick Padmore in a Lola T70, which tells you something about what is actually being raced here.

- Understand it is not ticketed publicly — access is through the club and the estate
- Dress period — the expectation is real, and it is arranged in advance rather than improvised
- Stay on or near the estate — Goodwood House and the surrounding Sussex are the reason to make it a weekend
- Take the spring meeting if you dislike crowds — the Revival is the better-known event and by some distance the busier one
Sussex either side is the other half of the weekend. Goodwood House sits on the same estate, the racecourse is on the hill above the circuit and the South Downs run away from both. Chichester is fifteen minutes and London is ninety, which makes the meeting reachable as a day but considerably better as two.
It is worth being clear about what the estate is. Goodwood is a working private estate that happens to run a circuit, a racecourse, an aerodrome and a golf course, and the events are hosted rather than staged commercially. That shapes everything about how access works and why it runs through the club rather than a ticketing platform.
The aerodrome, incidentally, is on site — which for anyone arriving by private aircraft makes Goodwood one of the few circuits in Europe you can land at.

How the Weekend Differs from the Revival
The Members’ Meeting runs a compressed programme over two days in spring: a dozen or so races, high-speed demonstrations of cars too valuable or too fragile to race, and a paddock that visitors can walk. Because the crowd is a fraction of the Revival’s, the paddock is genuinely accessible rather than theoretically so.
The other difference is weather and mood. Spring in Sussex is unreliable, the meeting is smaller and the whole thing behaves like a club event that happens to have thirty million pounds of machinery in the pit lane. Several of our members prefer it to the Revival for exactly that reason.
