Michelin Star Restaurants in Rome: How to Secure a Table

One three-star table above the city, a deeper layer of one- and two-star kitchens below it, and a capital where the best reservations are arranged rather than found

About Michelin Star Restaurants in Rome

The Michelin star restaurants Rome offers sit in a city that is itself the main attraction. In the Michelin Guide Italy 2026, presented on 19 November 2025, Rome holds 24 Michelin stars: one three-star restaurant, three with two stars, and the rest with one.

The Michelin Guide awards one star for high-quality cooking, two for excellent cooking worth a detour, and three for exceptional cuisine worth a special journey.

Michelin Star Restaurants Rome: The Starred Tables in Context

Rome’s one three-star restaurant is La Pergola, on the top floor of the Rome Cavalieri hotel, where chef Heinz Beck has led the kitchen since 1994 and earned the third star in 2005. It overlooks the city, and for many visitors it is the single reservation the trip is built around.

Below it, the list has changed shape. The 2026 guide awarded a star to two further restaurants in the centre: La Terrazza, at Hotel Eden, and INEO, at the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi on Piazza della Repubblica. Both are in the centre, which matters in a city where distance is measured in traffic. Further out, Al Madrigale in Tivoli was named Restaurant Opening of the Year, a reminder that some of the region’s most interesting cooking sits outside the walls.

Why Hotel Dining Changes the Plan

Some of the Michelin restaurants Rome visitors ask about sit inside hotels. That has a practical consequence: the dining and the stay can be planned together, and a room near the restaurant removes the hardest part of an evening, which is the journey home. If you are choosing a base, our guide to luxury hotels in Rome covers the options by district.

Where to Start

  • Choose the evening that deserves the three stars. La Pergola is a destination dinner. Build the rest of the week around it rather than fitting it between other plans
  • Decide between the centre and the edge. The central one-star tables suit a short stay. The restaurants outside the walls, such as those in Tivoli, suit a full afternoon and a driver
  • Mix the starred table with the city. Rome rewards balance. One tasting menu, one long lunch in a neighbourhood trattoria, and one terrace is a better week than four formal dinners
  • Ask about the current guide. Stars are reviewed every year. A restaurant that held a star at the last ceremony may change before you arrive, so check the status close to the date

Booking Rome’s Starred Restaurants

The most sought-after tables are released by each restaurant on its own schedule, which makes the calendar harder than the choice. Windows differ, and tasting menus can require a deposit, so the plan has to be built restaurant by restaurant.

This is where a concierge is useful. We find out what is available for your dates, hold what we can, and tell you plainly when a table cannot be had.
